Car Dealer Commercials

Okay, I gotta admit that Grady the Badger really cracks me up.  For those of whom live outside the Triangle area, I’m referring to the TV commercials for Johnson Automotive that feature their somewhat unusual spokesperson.  The intent of these commercials is not so much to sell you a new vehicle, but convince you to visit their dealerships so you won’t get treated as badly like ‘ol Grady treats his customers.   There’s an interesting selection on YouTube if you want to check them out for yourself.

Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a funnier bunch of clips since Mark Jacobson’s early days when he was paired with his goofy sidekick Donald.  Those were just as hilarious as the Grady spots, only with more sight gags and physical humor.  I do miss that Donald fella, though.  Too bad they couldn’t make that guy into a bobblehead.

Of course, I do have a list of my top five faves featuring the round furball in a leisure suit:
5.  Credit Report – “You gotta lot of money, so then let’s do the deal!”
4.  Popcorn Break -”Do you see this suit I’m wearing?  I don’t fix cars, I sell cars!”
3. Wiggle Room – “Wiggle wiggle womp!  Wiggle wiggle omph wa woo!”
2.  Kapowee!! – that one word pretty such says it all
1.  Chick Magnet – “We can pick up some chicks in this car!”

How to Be a Sharp-Dressed Man

Okay, so this is pretty much what I look like when I’m wearing a necktie. Needless to say, I got quite a few compliments on it at church earlier today. What makes this story more interesting is where I got it.

You see, this is no ordinary tie. It is a Brooks Brothers tie, one of the finest men’s clothiers around. The quality of their clothes are so good even Stephen Colbert wears them on his show. I got the tie, along with a few other pieces of clothing, at a Brooks Brothers outlet store in the tiny town of Garland, NC. It’s located between Fayetteville and Wilmington, for those whom are unfamiliar with the Tar Heel state.

Anywho, this place does have a fairly good selection of shirts, pants, suits, and other apparel for a lot less than the mall. Much of what they sell is pretty much “off the rack”, meaning that some of their items are imperfect or not custom-tailored. Then again, if you are one of those who desire good quality clothing at rock-bottom prices, the Brooks Brothers outlet store may well be worth a visit.

One more thing, this particular store is not that easy to find, despite being just off a major highway. There is a Piggly Wiggly supermarket nearby, if you’re looking for a local landmark. I did include a map to help you get there, in case you’d like to stop on by.
