Handcrafted Baseball Bat

January 6, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Interesting story that happened over the holidays that’s worth sharing here …

One of the presents I gave my brother Alex for Christmas was a custom-made baseball bat with the word “Wolfpack” carved on the barrel.  It came from this gentleman over in Sanford who makes all sorts of carved wood objects.  Well, it turns out my mother placed a similar order from him, only it was an even bigger bat (they come in two different sizes, by the way).  The one Alex got from Mom had “N C State” carved on the barrel along with his name.  Needless to say, I was a bit embarrassed to be upstaged by my mom.  But being the good sport I am, I went on ahead and gave my bat to Alex anyway.  Besides, I thought both bats complimented each other nicely.  Too bad I don’t have a picture to show here, though.  That would make this story look interesting, if not plausible.

Interesting little factoid, this is the same guy who made actress Candice Bergen the nameplate seen in the hit TV series “Murphy Brown”.   He also made a custom bat for Durham native Trot Nixon as well when he was playing for the Red Sox.  Talk about connections, indeed!
