Radio Star

March 31, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This past week, I was at radio station 100.7 the River recording the voice tracks for my Perfect Album Side.  Essentially, it’s a collection of some of my favorite songs, along with a little audio commentary for each song.  It’s a rather interesting collection, indeed.  At least it’ll give you an idea of what I sound like, especially if you’re one of those who say I don’t talk all that much.

Anyway, the link to my PAS can be found here.  Just sit back and listen to the music.  And rock on!

Just Ducky

My latest video creation involves ducks, geese, and other webbed-footed friends.  I captured this while walking along the trail at Lake Lynn over in Raleigh a few weeks back.  Given that Easter is upon us, I’d thought at least something that might be symbolic of the holiday would be appropriate.

A word of caution – I’d be careful going down there after it rains.  Those fowl creatures have a funny way of coming out in droves whenever it happens.  I almost got attacked by one of them last summer, by the way.

It Happened First in Mayberry

March 2, 2008 · 1 Comment

DISCLAIMER: This blog post, while it does delve into the matter of politics, is not intended to express my opinion of a particular candidate. This is just merely and observation that I am making and should be viewed as such.

I was watching an episode of The Andy Griffith Show that I TiVo’d over the weekend which might be an eerily close reflection of the current state of politics. The episode “Politics Begins at Home” centers on the race for Mayberry town council between Andy’s Aunt Bea and city clerk Howard Sprague. Bea gets her support from the ladies of the local Garden Club, while Howard’s support come oddly enough from Andy himself, along with his buddies Floyd the Barber and Goober. Both nominees display very stark differences from the beginning in terms of who is best-suited to serve the citizenry of their town.

Anyway, as I was watching this episode, I noticed the similarity between the events in Mayberry over 40 years ago and the current race for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. However, instead of the intense fireworks we see on various news outlets between Hillary and Obama, we see more of how the candidates were considered polar opposites in terms of issues and ideology. While Bea touts a rather grandiose “will of the people” platform during the debate, ‘ol Howard maintains his straight-shooter attitude by presenting the facts. In the end, Bea senses that her opponent is more worthy and experienced in serving his constituents, thus she drops out of the race to show her support for Howard.

Whether or not the presidential race today will end up the same as this prefabricated story out of Hollywood still remains to be seen. Even so, I have to admit that Bea was totally off her rocker on this one. Heck, she couldn’t even spell “caucus” correctly. Still, it’s an episode worth watching if it ever comes on TV Land or any local station carrying TAGS anytime soon.

Even if it is on Channel 5 at, say, 4 in the morning …
